How to Respect Privacy and Eliminate Cookie Consent Banners?
Global privacy laws are phasing out cookie-based tracking, making it harder to justify using cookies. As a result, website owners face challenges with consent banners and privacy issues. If you're dealing with these challenges, you should know there are ways to transition to a cookieless world.
How does Sona track users?
Sona’s first-party tracking script is designed from the ground up to protect user privacy without sacrificing tracking completeness. When you setup Sona, you’ll add a lightweight tracking script that loads from Sona servers. At the time of writing, the Sona tracking script is around 5.4 kb.
The script tracks events and sessions by default, giving you more visibility and granularity into every page visit. The attributes that it does collect such as IP address, browser, timestamp, etc. allow the user to remain anonymous.
Sona’s script sets itself apart in a couple of ways to collect more comprehensive data 1) Requests are sent from your domain so they’re never flagged (and blocked) by browsers or ad blockers as coming from an external, third-party source and 2) Sona leverages cookieless tracking to collect data.
If you use Sona for attribution tracking, it is your choice to further implement a consent banner since Sona’s cookieless tracking script collects first-party data for the benefit of only your business.
How does Sona Track Visitors without Using Cookies?
While we can't spill all the secrets, we generate a fingerprint based upon visitor attributes that are passed to the server. The diversity of attributes sent make it nearly impossible to decrypt however it allows an opportunity to record unique traffic.
To create this fingerprint, we use data such as but not limited to:
Screen height, width, and depth
